The Household of God Ephesians 2:19
Taking steps in Christianity. Understand what Jesus did for you. It is true that Jesus died for our Sins. But why? Reading: Romans 5:8, 1 Corinthians 15:3 Introduction It is common knowledge that Jesus died for our sins. But I want you to take a little time to ponder why he did it? Have you thought about how he did it too? And Finally have you thought about what part you should play in all this drama? 1. Why did he do it? The most difficult person to see the light is the one who believes that his situition is what it should be or is not even aware that there is anything amiss. We are grateful to the Lord for waking us up from darkness Isaiah 60:1, Romans 5:8 Why? John 3:16 Here are a few groups of people and their response to this Great act of the Lord. a. I am off the hook b. I have someone who will always bail me when I get into trouble. c. I have accepted this Grace and will find out what I should do. 2. I am off the hook He doesn't care about why the favour was given, less likely how, and certainly does not play any part. Luke 18:12-19 Ten lepers healed one honours God. Lesson: God is not saving you from Sin so that you can simply be free of it's effects and walk away. No. He also wants to prepare you to know how to be free from the same or from a similar trouble and give you a place in heaven. Coming back to show gratitude has these implications 1. You acknowledge the source of your deliverance. 2. You can always go back to that source 3. You have found (acknowledged) a better way of living a trouble free life A man like that can be given the opportunity to avoid future difficulties. 3. He will come and get me Being a Christian will certainly steer you off most trouble and Christianity aims at getting you off the main trouble (which is enmity with God) so there is the risk of getting into real earthly trouble. Peter: We have left everything and are following you Mark 10:28 Judas: Believed he could make money Matthew 26:15 John the Baptist: Was hoping Jesus will come and release him. Luke 7:19-20 We learn from these events that the objective of Christianity is larger than addressing earthly problems! Jesus intimated on this when He said in Matthew 16:26 what shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and lose his soul. We should be aware that a Christian has many gains even on earth but that is still not the ultimate objective of Christianity. Mark 10:30, Luke 18:30 received houses and eternal life. 4. Position yourself
Submission He who would join himself to his deliverer Surrender Mark 5:18-20, Remember Ruth. When Jesus heals you, He really wants you to testify. The best submission to our Lord is to be a witness of Him in word and deed. Continuity The Joy of submitting to the Lord and to the Kingdom of our God is the eternal joy and Life that He gives. Luke 10:20 names are written Assured On one hand we are assured by our Lord John 6:37, and on the other we are sure of his ability and promises. John 6:67-68 A worthy servant, Receive all available. Isaiah 1:18. John 15:10 All benefits guess to a worthy servant. But he plays a part by first his trust in the Lord. 5. Not by Power He Paid the Price! If you believe that Jesus took away your sin... Have you determined how he did it. He knew His mission. John 18:8 Whom seek ye.. John 15:13. Greater love has no man.. 6. God was with Him as He gave his life 2 Corinthians 5:21 God made him to be Sin who know no sin... Romans 6:23 For the wages of Sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ. The Life that can save could only come from Heaven Leviticus 17:11 For the life of the creature is in the blood 1 John 1:7-9 If we walk in the light as He is in the light the blood of Jesus Prayer: Father help me to walk in true consciousness of my sins washed away and serve my Lord in truth. Amen
