The Household of God Ephesians 2:19

Avoiding the Snare of the devil Sunday, January 28, 2018

Reading: 2 Timothy 2:24-26

1. Introduction
Many Christians often ask the question; why is this Christian doing the wrong things they do? The answer probably is in the fact that they are opposing themselves. Christians can only be Christians with the grace that comes from God.

2. What is opposing yourself?
We are designed for the truth. To operate contrary to the truth is to oppose one’s self.
One opposing himself is as one biking up a hill. The effort you make is against nature. Only a fraction of the effort benefits your objective.

3. It is Spiritual
Man is tripartite; opposing oneself is not opposing the flesh. The Flesh is not you and can usually be beneficial to one when it is opposed. Fasting, prayers, patience etc oppose the flesh and is good and beneficial to the Christian.
However consciously allowing oneself to be led into something known to be wrong or illegal is opposing oneself. (wrong or right is spiritual) Proverbs7:21-27

4. The Contention
To oppose one’s self therefore is to oppose your Spirit. It is in the Spirit that all decisions are made.
This means there is contention in man. There is a demand on you by things outside you and your own inner decision. Galatians 5:16-17

5. But focus on the spiritual
Very often men give attention to their flesh. 1Timothy 4:8. The wise will always follow the light of Jesus. John 8:12-13. Your direction matters. I count all things but loss Philippians 3:7-8. Paul.
Make a conscious effort to avoid the flesh Galatians 6:14-16. When God has been gracious to have shown is the direction it will be very unwise to walk contrary to it.

6. Solution
The one opposing himself or herself is in a snare. There are two things suggested by the Bible to help him. 2Timothy 2:25. Instruction in righteousness and prayer to God to release from the snare of the devil
Repentance
by giving them repentance and When conceding before God ones inability to withdraw. John 9:39-41
request assistance from the Father of all spirits in Jesus Name. John 5:39-42, Philemon 1:6
Acknowledgement of the truth
The word is effective only in the lives of those who acknowledge the word.

Prayer: Father I acknowledge that you loved me and came to redeem me. I accept and thank you in Jesus Name.
