The Household of God Ephesians 2:19

 

WE NEED GOD MOST IN OUR DISTRESS THROUGH THE EXERCISE OF FAITH, 26 AUGUST 2018

MEMORY VERSE: Romans 8: 38-39

INTRODUCTION: GOD NEVER FAILS IN ALL SITUATIONS

 1) Jobs steadfast faith

1) Job rebukes his wife who urged him to abandon God in adversity: Job: 2:9, 10

11) Jobs rebuke of his friends: Job 13:15, affirming his faith.

 

2) The faith of two desperate blind men.

After Jesus tested their faith they were healed through their faith. Mathew9: 27-29

3) The unwavering faith of the woman with the issue of blood. Mathew 9:20-22

4) The faith and persistence of the gentile woman whose possessed daughter was healed by Jesus. Mathew15: 22-28

 

11) Jesus  encounter with another gentile (Greek) woman who exercised faith on the basis of which her possessed daughter was healed. Mark7:24-29

 NB The two encounters with the gentile women shows, that no matter our circumstances, if we readily surrender, Christ will accept us and accede to our plea.

 

B:  CHALLENGES IN THE EXERCISE OF FAITH

Exercising faith and following Christ is not without challenges.

Jesus answer to some people who volunteer to follow him

Mathew 8:19-22 shows that it entails deprivation, societal rejection and absolute commitment

 

C: ASSURANCES IN EXERCISING FAITH IN FOLLOWING CHRIST.

1) Mathew 11:28-30

It shows Christ is ready to help us bear the burden

Mathew 10:28

Jesus asks us not to fear in the face of adversity.

 

D: REWARD IN FOLLOWING CHRIST THROUGH THE EXERCISE OF FAITH

John 14:1-4

If we exercise faith in Christ and follow him faithfully in spite of adversities, we get the ultimate prize, entry into Heaven.

 

CONCLUSION

Let us be steadfast in our faith in the face of all adversity for it is reward- yielding
