The Household of God Ephesians 2:19
A Covenant is Required Sunday, June 03, 2018
Reading: Genesis 17:10-14
Why would God who knows all things cut a covenant? In a sense risking His
Throne for a man -Abraham? Hebrews 6:13, Genesis 22:16
1. Introduction
Covenants are required for sacred relationship for an people who want to refuse
t be fretting about the stability of the relationship.
2. The Will of Man
There is a need for rest in any sacred relationship. This is because man has a
will. We have studied why having a will makes a relationship real. Angels do not
need a covenant? Do you know why? Hebrews 1:5, Hebrews 1:13.
3. Rest in a Relationship Hebrews 4:8-10
Therefore for a man the covenant is to make a relationship very very real. The
rest come from the fact that the man has no worries about the misuse of his
trust. Man have Will and they chose what they do!
Having no rest in your relationship is a break in covenant. It is not faith.
Holy relationship is one that has rest. The source of this rest is a covenant.
4. The essence of the Covenant
As far as a man has a Will the cutting of a covenant is imperative in any
relationship. The relationship becomes pure because our energies are not spent
on defensive and activities.
It is believe the defense budgets of countries are so high that they are usually
a secret. Real covenants will release these for more positive and useful acts.
5. Covenants make life worth it.
Life must anchor on something. It has to go on to something. Without an anchor
life becomes direction less and fruit less.
Covenants will release a person or a nation to focus on the reality. Fear and
distrust is really costing the earth a lot!
6. A relationship with rest is very different from one without.
A relationship with rest is true, real and without hypocrisy. The reason for
hypocrisy even amongst Christians is the lack of respect for the covenant cut
between them and the Lord.
People do not pay their tithes because of the fear of lack. Some wander to
strange God because of fear, and some are simply half hearted because of
disrespect for the covenant between us and the Lord. Hebrews 3:5
Marriage ceremonies are an attempt to create a relationship with rest but it is
lower than a covenant; though in fact some marriages are called covenants.
7. The breaking of a covenant – technically impossibility
When a man breaks a marriage the implications are deep.
• It means he is a liar or at the beginning,
• Did not understand the purpose of the relationship
• Did not understand covenants and what was it represents or is required.
• Does not value his life, his family’s life or his partners life.
• Is not ready to live his life as a responsible human being using his humanity
for the purposes of human beings. He can be classified otherwise!
8. Life must have an anchor Colossians 2:21-23
Life and All activity must have an anchor, a driving purpose a reason. Noting
really rakes place in a man’s life until it has a purpose. We have unwritten
covenants with our children our employers our friends our parent etc etc This is
what makes life worth living.
Any activity that's not in progress towards an end is not life. Schooling
building and life itself is progressive.
9. Our relationship with the Lord John 15:13
Whether we know it or not we, when we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and
personal saviour, this is what it should be:
We covenant with him why
Greater love has no man than this that a man did lay down his life for his
friends. His blood is our assurance of his Love. He gave His Life for us. John
10:17-18
10. It is not an enquiry
To accept Jesus to so as to find out does not exist. It is a covenant.
By the nature of things. "First I was a Christian" or "I have been a Christian
before" does not make sense. Whatever a man does and achieves cannot be greater
that the covenant one has with Jesus.
11. Conclusion
Our covenant with the Lord is to be absorbed into the heavenly family of Christ
Hebrews 12:18-22. What's shall it profit s man.
It is a higher calling don't trade it for temporal things.
Prayer: Father, help me to keep my covenant with you in Jesus Name Amen.
