The Household of God Ephesians 2:19
Know what things to do, all things are not useful - Sunday 19
March 2017
Reading: 1Co 10:23
1. Introduction Matthew 6:24-34
The moral of the sermon is that we have to focus on the important things in our
life as Christians. Many Christians have confidence in the wrong things. Jesus
is showing us that what your focus is on its important. Reason because when one
is focused on one the other is out of view. As soon as you focus on one thing as
important then everything becomes a shadow.
Lesson: focus on the overall purpose and do not let the little things block your
higher focus.
2. The two needs of man Physical and Spiritual needs
The two things we are talking about are is physical needs which money can get
and spiritual needs which only faith can get. V25 Jesus advices. Take no
thought…
• It is quite alarming how many are Christians because of physical needs.
Lesson: Life more than meat, body more than raiment.
E.g. How come all the other creatures don't have these concerns. Yet they don't
die of hunger. Have you considered that their creator feeds them?
3. Wrong Focus
Man has focused on the wrong things. The focus is on the provision of the
creator instead of the creator himself.
Lesson: The advice is that let all things be done in the one focus-God. 1
Corinthians 10:31
4. Thinking is good but faith brings life Matthew 6:31
Hebrews 13:5 I will never leave you nor forsake you.
• A man cannot add to his life by thinking but faith adds to a man's life. (27)
• Thinking is in the ability of men but faith is in the ability of God
• There is limitation in thinking but faith is unlimited in its effect and scope
John 3:11-12
• Thinking gets its strength from what men know but faith has its strength in
the all knowing Lord. 1 Corinthians 1:9
• Thinking can be deceptive but faith is in the hands of God Matthew 13:22
5. Conclusion
All thinking must be directed to God 1Corinthians 10:31 and let your faith be on
the faithful God.
Father, help me to focus on life that you have given us in Jesus Christ. Amen
Key Morale
