The Household of God Ephesians 2:19
Who will fight my Battles for me? Sunday, February
05, 2017
Setting: David against Goliath 1 Samuel 17
Reading: 1 Samuel 17:47
1. Introduction
Battles are fought with preparation and support. The Bible enjoins us to count
the cost before attempting any battle
2. Experience in Battle?
David had experience with the Lord in the wilderness.
What is your wilderness? Have you been trained? It had become second nature to
him that he could do all things with the Lord. Philippians 4:13, David had a
different experience.1 Samuel 17:39
3. Experience with men or with God?
David experience motivated him. His experience was with the Lord not with men. 1
Samuel 17:37. Many of us only move according to the word of men.
4. You are incapable call on your Lord!
Even angels also call on their God. Jude 1:9
Are you aware that men always call on the superior when in battle? It is a
deadly trap to men to be deceived into thinking they are the main players in
battle. 1 Samuel 17:43-45. The main players are the gods; men call on them.
The Bible says so
There is an inner wiring that tells us we need superior assistance.
Come into me all ye that labour Matthew 11:28
Call upon me Jeremiah 29:12, For without me John 15:5, Psalms 50:15, 55:16,
86:7, 91:15
On this earth men need support and demons need support don't fight your battles
by yourself you will lose. Battles are not supposed to be won by soldiers but
nations. 1 Samuel 17:15. We can't and shouldn't fight or own battles. 1
Corinthians 9:7
5. Don't be deceived
Don't forget what the Bible says "we are more the conquerors through him that
loved us" Romans 8:37
The wrong reliance
It should surprise us how many of us actually rely on ourselves. Out of the
thousands that has gathered, only two knew who were the real combatants. Do you
know who your combatant is?
6. Human methods can't win wars
1 Samuel 17:47 it is clear that our methods of battle at not the same as the
Lord's methods. He uses no sword or spear. 1 Samuel 17:47. We just use the
spoils. After Goliath was knocked down David used his spear to finish the job.
Key Morale
Let the Lord be your banner.
Prayer: father, may I always do my battles under your banner.
